Week 1, Day 3

Week 1 day 3 Settling in
I wouldn't exactly call it settling in considering I don't think we'll ever really adjust after what we've been through but we've got ourselves a flat, courtesy of Shinichi's parents. Sherlock and I are pretending to be Conan's legal guardians seeing as how it doesn't really matter anyway - they're never around. Having actual days is a bit weird and it almost feels as if barely any time has passed at all since I first arrived on the Charon. It's still summer and my 40th birthday is right around the corner but it seems schools in Japan work on a different system and Conan will have to go during these summer months.

I'm thinking of getting a job even though I don't have to. Shinichi's parents are rich, apparently, but it doesn't feel right to me to keep using their money. Plus, it will help having something to occupy my time. Sherlock and Conan will have their cases.

There's a part of me that can't help but feel that this isn't over -- this mess with COMPASS. We left a lot undone even though the PH is dead. Plus, I doubt that they'd let us just go "world-hopping". So I've got emergency bags packed for all three of us. Just in case. Maybe we'll take a vacation before the other shoe drops or on Conan's summer vacation time. There are loads of nice beaches and it'd be nice to be on one where we don't nearly drown. Could be therapeutic.

As it is I wake up and my first thought is that I'm back there on the boat or in some shabby underwater apartment but then I see the city lights outside the window. Usually can't get back to sleep after that. Also, I don't think I've ever been more grateful for a clean bathroom than I was when we first got here. Not even after I got back from Afghanistan.

I attempted to call Joan sometime after we got here. Yesterday, I believe. Unsurprisingly there was no Joan on the other end, it was some American bloke so I doubt it was her Sherlock either considering what she's told me about him.
